Uma das minhas coisas favoritas do meu trabalho como corretora de imóveis em Miami é entrar no escritório super minimalista e industrial da minha agência, a Chariff Realy Group, localizada no Miami Design District, e ver alinhados na mesa central de trabalho os  mais incríveis catálogos, livros e brochuras publicados pelo mercado desvairado de propriedades de luxo em Miami. Mantemos uma galeria onde só coisa boa segura lugar! Meu artigo favorito  é o catálogo das famosas coberturas do Saint Regis Bal Harbour. É um livrão com poucas fotos que ocupam a página inteira. Literalmente, a mão viaja pela orla marítima linda desta cidade, e chega lá em cima, em Bal Habour, para encontrar o prédio e suas almejados oito coberturas.  É  mar, onda, palmeira, bicicleta, parasol  em uma das maiores paginas de livro que eu já toquei as mãos. Aprecio seu gigante silêncio, o fato que o livro não vende  o prédio ou as residências. Vende a experiencia objetiva de folhear um livro sobre Miami, sua areia e mar –a essência da razão pela qual moramos aqui.

One of my favorite things in my job as a real estate agent is to arrive at the minimalist and industrial office of Chariff Realty Group in the super cool Miami Design District, and see, perfectly lined on the work table the most outrageous catalogues, books and brochures published by the luxury property marketeers. We curate a gallery and only the best can keep a spot. My favorite item is the Bespoke Collection at the Saint Regis Bal Harbour catalogue. This is big book with very few photos. Literally, the hand travels up the coast of Miami Beach and arrives, up there, in Bal Harbour, to touch the desirable eight bespoken penthouses. It is ocean, wave, palm tree, bicycle, parasol in one of the biggest book pages my hands have ever touched. I appreciate its gigantic silence e and the fact that the book does not sell the building or its residences. It sells the objective magnified experience of flipping a book about Miami, its sand and ocean — the essence of the reason why we live here.

Venetian Pool em Coral Gables

O glamour de Miami é antigo. Centro da elegância no final dos anos 20, a Venetian Pool, em Coral Gables,  é uma jóia arquitetônica desenhada pelo arquiteto Phineas Paist. O projeto foi parte da urbanização comedida do visionário George Merrick. A piscina, hoje publica,  é um labirinto de pórticos, fontes, torres e cachoeiras que dispensam 820 milhoes de  galões de água oriundas de fontes artesanais subterrâneas.  Já foi pedreira aberta, e nos dias em que era cassino, gôndolas  cruzavam suas águas frescas transportando estrelas de Hollywood e dignitários visitando a Flórida. Passou por uma renovação histórica nos 80 que custou $ 3.5 milhoes. Porém, quem a visita hoje, nota que as rugas de sua história estão bem visíveis: suas paredes de estuque, uma argamassa feita com pó de mármore, cal fina, gesso e areia, são da  cor de seda desbotada de onde tufos de samambaia, teimosamente brotam, obstinados a serem parte do paisagismo natural e histórico.

Miami glamour is an old concept. The Venetian Pool, in Coral Gables, was the center of elegance at the end of the 1920’s. This architectural jewel was designed by Phineas Paist. The project was part of the calculated urbanization envisioned by George Merrick. The pool, today a sleepy local swim hole, is a labyrinth of porticos, fountains, towers and waterfalls where 820 million gallons of fresh water  from an underground basin circulate freely. It was an open stone quarry originally. In its prime, it became an aquatic casino with a venetian theme complete with gondolas that transported Hollywood stars and dignitaries visiting Florida. The pool went through a massive $3.5 million renovation in the 80s. However, today,  visitors notice that the wrinkles of its history are still visible: stucco walls — painted in a peach color that resembles faded silk –are a live vertical garden where colonies of different ferns grow. They are  indifferent  to time and resolute to become part of historical landscaping.

Wynwood: Arte Radical

Wynwoood é a tradução concreta  da outra Miami — a Miami da vanguarda artística, rebelde, irreverente e dotada de explosivo talento. O grupo de galpões industriais, antes abandonados, é hoje a moradia de galerias, estúdios e algumas lojas e restaurantes. Fica a 15 minutos de Miami Beach mas parece ser outra cidade. Quem conhece arte de grande calibre sabe como navegar em Wynwood: visita todas as galerias estabelecidas — a Rubell Family Collection, Gallery Diet, Fredric Snitzer Gallery,  Margulies Collection e o galpão do MOCA (Museu de Arte Contemporânea) — mas ainda deixa espaço na cabeça para absorver o radicalismo efêmero de suas paredes. A qualidade do grafite em Wynwood é chocante, a cada esquina um  baque emocional, gigantes murais, pequenas impressões na calçada e prédios que viraram quadro…vir a Miami e não visitar Wynwood é ir a Paris e não entrar no Louvre.

Wynwood is the concrete translation of the other Miami — the Miami of the art vanguard. It is rebellious, irreverent and it’s exploding with talent. The industrial warehouses, once abandoned, are today home to studios, few stores and restaurants. It is located 15 minutes from Miami Beach but it seems to be in another town.The  art lover knows how to navigate in Wynwood: he/she visits all the established galleries — The Rubell Family Collection, the Gallery Diet, the Fredric Snitzer Galleries, the Margulies Collection and MOCA’s warehouse — but still leaves plenty of room in his/her head to absorb the ephemeral radicalism of its walls. The quality of grafitti in Wynwood is shocking. Each corner begets its own emotional bang: giant murals, tiny spray-painted impressions on the sidewalks and buildings turned into paintings…to come to Miami and not to visit Wynwood is to go to Paris and skip the Louvre.

A torre, dividida em duas, é um leque de vidro aberto, beijando o mar calmo de Miami. Todas as áreas do prédio teem vista para  praia, incluindo o lobby. O arquiteto Carlos Ott deixa marca: as duas piscinas brincam com sombra e luz. Ele acha que os edifícios são “descaradamente modernos.”  É o pied-à-terre perfeito em Miami, sem os decibeis agitados de South Beach (um refugio?),  a dois minutinhos de Bal Harbour (perigo!), com o serviço de praia do Epicure (delicia!). E a sala de brinquedos, montada pela Genius Jones, com as pequeninas Lou Lou Ghost do designer Phillipe Starck nao é brincadeira! The tower, divided in two, is an open glass fan kissing the calm Miami ocean. Every area in the building has ocean views, including the lobby. The architect Carlos Ott leaves his mark: the two pools play with shadow & light. He calls the buildings, “unashamedly modern”. It is the perfect pied-à-terre in Miami, without the throbbing South Beach decibels (a refuge?), two minutes from Bal Harbour (dangerous!) and with beach service by the Epicure (delish!). And, yes, the Genius Jones playroom, featuring tiny Lou Lou Ghost chairs by Phillippe Stark it is not your regular child’s play! Visitando Miami mas já cansou da casa da tia ou do hotel baratinho que você escolheu para economizar? Feche os olhos e faça de conta que você é um rock star! Compre um ‘passe’ para qualquer uma das grandes academias de ginástica localizadas nos hotéis 5 estrelas na orla da praia ou em downtown e, pronto! A minha academia favorita é  a David Barton Gym no  Gansevoort Hotel . Por $25 você poderá fazer um treino rápido (ou não), botar o calção de banho e usar as belas piscinas do hotel bem como o serviço de praia. Na volta, poderá: usar o spa, fazer uma sauna, tomar um belo banho e, tomar um Martini antes de voltar para casa ….só não vale dar autógrafo na piscina!

 

Soho Beach House Miami invadimos a praia!

Miami tem praia, e muita, mas apenas algumas delas são freqüentadas pela galera local. A praia em frente do Soho Beach House, é umas das mais discretas e exclusivas. Muito vinho rosé gelado, jarras de mojitos com folhinha de hortelã flutuando dentro e uma comidinha super light que inclui ceviche de cobia destas águas…e mais importante, o ti-ti-ti dos muitos artistas locais…mas  pssst! quando invadir esta praia não diga que os brasileiros estão aqui para ficar!

Miami has (many) beaches, however only few of them make the local crowd fell at home. The beach in front of the Soho Beach House is one of the most discreet and exclusive. You will see a lot chilled bottles of rosé, jars of mojitos jammed with fresh mint leaves, light tiny bites that include a delicious pineapple and local cobia ceviche. Most important, though, you will hear the dirty secrets of all the local artists on a beach day…but don’t tell them the brazilians are taking over their world!
